Born in 1971. Longford-based. Came to prominence in 1992 as a leading figure in the Youth Defence campaign during the abortion referendum which followed the X-Case. Member No-Divorce Alliance in 1997. A fierce opponent of EU power and enlargement, he opposed the Single European Act in 1997 and was prominent in the 'No to Nice' campaign.
He has been sharply critical of Government immigration policy and warned of the dangers of mass immigration. In 2002, he became embroiled in controversy when it was discovered that he attended - as guest of honour - meetings of Germany's extreme right-wing National Democratic Party. Barrett denied that the NPD was a 'far-right' organisation and explained that he attended only in his capacity as a member of the pro-life movement. Married with two children.
