Travel software firm Datalex has announced the opening of a new office in Beijing in China.

The announcement was made during Enterprise Ireland's trade and investment mission to China, led by the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton.

China is among the fastest growing aviation markets globally. The International Air Transport Association said China has one of the strongest performing domestic markets in the world, with domestic air travel having expanded in the country by 11.7% in 2013.

It predicts that passenger volumes in China will have increased by 193 million by 2016 over the preceding five years - this is equivalent to over 23% of the estimated global increase in passenger numbers over the same time.

Aidan Brogan, the chief executive of Datalex, said that a permanent local presence in China is an important step in the company's market strategy as the world’s leading provider of airline ecommerce and merchandising solutions.

"China is a very exciting market to be part of and an important step for Datalex in support of our existing customers such as Air China and development of new business," he added.
