A liquidator is keen to make contact with approximately 40 former employees of a nursing home because they are due redundancy payments.

Avondale Nursing Home in Callan, Co Kilkenny was closed in 2011 by the Health Service Executive due to health and safety concerns.

Today the High Court ordered that the nursing home be wound up.

Declan de Lacy of PKF O’Connor Leddy & Homes has been appointed official liquidator.

The winding up order was made following an application to the High Court by Bridget Brander who was a former employee of the company.

The 40 employees have been unable to claim redundancy, holiday pay or a number of other payments they may be due under employment law.

Following Mr de Lacy’s appointment as liquidator, he will be able to make an application on behalf of staff to the Department of Social Protection to have the payments made to the staff.

He is then expected to liquidate the assets of the company to compensate the Department.
