Ryanair passenger numbers up, but Aer Lingus reports a dip

Ryanair has reported a 7% increase in total passenger numbers for February.

The airline said it carried 4.5 million passenges last month compared to 4.2 million the same month last year.

Its load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - rose by 1% to 78%.

But new figures from Aer Lingus show its passenger figures for February - including those on its Regional operations - fell by 1.2% to 640,000. 

Aer Lingus said its long haul passenger numbers increased by 7% to 46,000, while short haul passenger numbers were down 3.8% to 512,000.

Its overall passenger load factor last month was 67.3% compared to 68.3% for the same month in 2013.
