Ryanair has reported a 5% increase in passenger numbers for the month of January.

The airline said its passenger numbers climbed to 4.6 million last month from 4.3 million the same time last year.

Its load factor - how many seats it fills on each flight - was steady at 71%.

Ryanair also said today that its customers can use their portable electronic devices for the entire duration on all of its flights from today - once the devices are switched to "flight mode" and all safety briefings are observed.

This is the latest customer initiative introduced by the airline as it continues to improve its customer service.

It follows the recent roll-out of allocated seats for all customers.
