Bank of Ireland has said any customers whose accounts were mistakenly debited twice have been rectified.

The bank did not disclose how many customers were affected by the error.

The fault affected some visa debit transactions carried out last Friday, which were then debited again on Monday night.

Any customers who incurred fees or inadvertedly went overdrawn will be not charged.
