Canadian aeronautics company Bombardier has announced it is eliminating 1,700 jobs in Canada and the United States.

The action comes after the company announced a 19% drop in orders last year.

The 1,700 jobs to be eliminated amount to 4.4% of Bombardier's workforce, with 1,100 in the Montreal region and 600 at a factory in the US state of Kansas.

A spokesperson said the jobs slated for elimination include 300 cut in December.
