Ryanair carried more than 81 million passengers in 2013, according to the airline, a 2% increase on the previous year.

The low-cost airline said it transported five million customers in December, 200,000 (4%) more than in the same month of 2012 and a record for the month.

Its load factor for the month was 81%, with this figure standing at 83% over the course of the year.

The airline’s communications manager Robin Kiely said the roll out of a number of customer service improvements helped it to boost performance, with further changes due to come into force in the coming months.
