80 jobs are to be created at a healthcare technology company around the country.

Sláinte Healthcare is creating the positions over the next year as part of the Government's Health Innovation Hub.

The company already employs 90 people in offices in Dublin, the Middle East, Australia and the UK.

The Health Innovation Hub project, a Government supported initiative under the Action Plan for Jobs 2013, drives collaboration between the health system and enterprises.

It aims to lead to the commercialisation of new healthcare technologies, products and services.

Announcing the new positions, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton said he firmly believes that the hub has great potential to accelerate the growth of Irish companies in this sector while also providing solutions to problems faced by the health service.

"We are determined to press on with the development of this project as part of our overall plan to support Irish enterprises and create the jobs we need," the Minister said.

Mr Bruton also said that Ireland was on target to exceed its target on job creation. He said almost 60,000 jobs had been created in the export trade, and that this sector was helping to lead growth.
