1,000 jobs created in financial services sector this yearTuesday 03 December 2013 14.59
Over 1,000 jobs were created in the international financial services sector this year, according to new figures from IFSC Ireland.
John Bruton, president of IFSC Ireland, said he saw "a strong pipeline of potential projects across the various industry sectors for 2014".
Mr Bruton Bruton said that 30 investment projects had been approved this year and that net job creation looked set to breach the 1,000 job mark.
"This was a remarkable achievement given all that had happened in the financial services industry both nationally and internationally since 2008," he added.
The IFSC has become a national industry with a significant regional footprint in Dundalk, Kilkenny, Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway and Letterkenny.
Commenting on the figures, Kieran Donoghue, Head of International Financial Services Division at IDA Ireland, said they were "very positive and encouraging". He said that on aggregate, the sector has recovered the job losses and headcount reductions that followed the global financial crisis.
