The Minister for Finance will not be opposing the salaries of the CEO of Bank of Ireland at its annual court tomorrow, according to Junior Minister Brian Hayes.
Mr Hayes said Michael Noonan will not be using the State's 15% holding to oppose Richie Boucher's total annual pay and benefits, which were €843,000 in 2012.
He was speaking during Topical Issue Debate and said the Government did not involve itself in the day to day running of the banks. He said this had been agreed with the Troika.
The matter was raised by several Government TDs, who said the minister should use his 15% to send a strong message to bankers.
