The ESB has announced plans to sell its shareholding in power stations in Britain and Spain.
The company currently owns 50% of a 840MW plant operated by Marchwood Power Ltd near Southampton in England. Scottish & Southern Energy owns the other half of the facility.
It also owns 50% of Bizkaia Energia SL, which operates the 755MW Amorebieta Power Plant near Bilbao in northern Spain. Japan’s Osaka Gas owns the other half of that operation.
Construction on the British plant began in 2007, with operations there beginning two years later. The Spanish plant has been in operation since 2005.
