Travel figures show rise in trips to Ireland

The number of trips made into Ireland from overseas rose by almost 53,000 between November and January.

Latest travel figures from the CSO show just under 1.25 million trips into Ireland during those three months, an increase of 4.4% compared to the same period in the previous year.

Trips by residents of North America were up 12.2% to 159,200. There was strong growth in the number of trips made by residents from outside either Europe or North America which rose by 16% to 79,400.

Travel by Irish residents both into and out of the country is also on the rise according to the statistics.

The number of trips made by Irish residents was up 2.7% between November and January to 2.4 million.
