A pilot scheme to simplify the process around the granting of 25 of 159 different types of licence to carry out business activity should cut compliance costs by around one third.
Speaking at an Oireachtas Committee on Jobs and Enterprise, the Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton said the Government's aim was to simplify the licensing process for business.
He said that the intention was to go beyond the pilot project and rationalise the area.
159 licences have been analysed by his Department.
The measure is one of a number of so-called 'disruptive reforms' under this year's Action Plan for Jobs.
