The Irish Banking Federation has published a monitor of housing activity in the Irish market.
The report, compiled from publically available data, brings together statistics such as prices, transaction levels and mortgage draw-downs.
The IBF intends to publish the monitor on a quarterly basis.
Analysis by economist Ronan Lyons alongside the first quarterly monitor points to possible future shortages in housing supply in certain areas.
There are signs, he said, "that in certain segments the time of a glut of houses is past and instead policymakers need to ensure no shortages emerge".
