An Bord Pleanála has granted permission for Glanbia's proposed dairy processing facility at the IDA's Belview site in Co Kilkenny.

The facility, which would be run by Glanbia Ingredients Ireland Limited, or GIIL, would allow for the progress and development of its milk expansion plans. The company says it will be a "flagship" dairy processing facility.

Jim Bergin, GIIL chief executive, said the group is investing about €180m at Belview and that this will support on-farm growth and provide a major jobs boost locally.

GIIL currently employs about 500 people, including 320 at the Ballyragget facility and expects to employ a further 70 at the new facility at Belview.

It is projected that up to 450 people will be employed during the construction phase.
