A man in his 20s has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run in Co Meath.

The man was found at the side of the road on the Rathmolyon to Summerhill road just before 9pm last night.

He had been struck by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver failed to remain at the scene.

The man's body was later removed to Our Lady's Hospital in Navan.

A section of the road is closed to allow for a forensic investigation and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed to witnesses, anyone with information on the incident, or anyone who travelled on the road between 8.30pm and 9pm yesterday evening to contact Trim Garda Station on 046-9481540, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any garda station.
