Four men have been arrested following the seizure of over €3m worth of cannabis in Co Meath.

Gardaí stopped a number of cars in the Ashbourne area at 4pm yesterday, as part of a planned operation targeting organised crime groups.

160kg of cannabis herb was seized and the men, aged between 25 and 61, were arrested. 

They are being held at garda stations in Dublin and Meath. 

The seizure follows a joint investigation involving the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service, the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and the Special Crime Task Force supported by local gardaí. 

Separately, two men were arrested after 5.5kg of cannabis herb was found during the planned search of a house in Cogan's Cottages, Ballinlough Rd, Douglas in Co Cork yesterday.

The men, aged in their 50s and 30s, are being held at Anglesea Garda Station.

The drugs have an estimated street value of €110,000.
