A 32-year-old man who was discovered with serious injuries at an apartment complex in Killarney on Sunday has died in hospital.

Andrzez Piolunowicz had been caring for his 11-month-old son at the apartment in Park Place Apartments on Upper High Street in the Co Kerry town.

The boy's mother, Anna Rozycka, discovered her son seriously injured after returning from work.

Paramedics attended the scene shortly after 6pm on Sunday but the baby, named as Karol Rozycki, was pronounced dead a short time later by a local doctor.

A post-mortem examination has been completed on Karol, although gardaí indicated it may be some time before the results are released.

Mr Piolunowicz was taken to Kerry University Hospital in Tralee for treatment before being transferred to Cork University Hospital where he died this afternoon.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the vicinity of Park Place Apartments between 1pm and 6pm on Sunday evening to contact them.

Baby Karol's mother thanks public for support

Earlier today, Ms Rozycka thanked the people of Killarney for their support.

She said she will travel to her native Poland tomorrow, where baby Karol will be buried at the weekend.
