Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an 11-month-old baby boy at an apartment complex in Killarney, Co Kerry.
The circumstances surrounding the baby's death are not known at this stage but a man in his 30s is receiving medical treatment.
Shortly before 6pm this evening, gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of the incident at an apartment on Upper High Street, Killarney.
The baby boy was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A man in his 30s with serious injuries was taken from the scene by ambulance to University Hospital Kerry, Tralee.
The baby’s body remains at the scene which is currently preserved.
The Office of the State Pathologist was informed and a preliminary examination will be carried out by the Assistant State Pathologist Margaret Bolster later this evening.
