Two people have been killed in separate road collisions in Co Dublin and Co Kilkenny.

An investigation is under way following a fatal collision on the Naas Rd near Newlands Cross, Co Dublin this morning.

A man in his 20s died when he was struck by a car around 3am.

His body remains at the scene.

The stretch of road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators, but has since reopened.

Meanwhile, a 61-year-old woman has been killed following a two-car collision Co Kilkenny yesterday evening.

The crash happened around 7.45pm at Carrigunura, Slieverua on the New Ross to Waterford Rd (N25).

The woman, who was driving one of the cars, was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was removed to Waterford University Hospital.

The male driver of the second car received minor injuries and was taken to Waterford University Hospital.

The road remains closed to traffic and local diversions are in place.

The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators today, with the road expected to remain closed until around 12pm.
