A woman was killed and four other people were injured in a multi-vehicle collision in Co Roscommon yesterday.

Four cars and a truck were involved in the crash, which happened at Cloonfree near Strokestown at around 1.30pm.

The woman, who was in her 70s and driving one of the cars, was taken to University College Hospital Galway where she was later pronounced dead.

A man who was travelling with her, also aged in his 70s, was taken to UCHG with minor injuries.

The truck driver, who is in his early 40s, and a man and a woman in another car were treated for minor injuries.

Six people travelling in the two other cars were not injured.

The road was closed for a time for a technical examination but has since re-opened.
