The HSE has said that a second attempt to fill a GP position in Feakle, Co Clare has failed to attract any responses.

The position was first advertised in June but no applications were received.

The deadline for the second advertising was this evening, but the HSE has said that no applications were again received.

Following the failure to attract a doctor after the first advertising the community council and a local businessman came together and offered a building rent free for a period in an attempt to attract a doctor to the area.

This evening the HSE said that it will review the position as to whether or not a further advertisement would be productive.

The HSE added that it was their intention to have a GP service as close as possible to the people in the community and that a locum arrangement is in place in the area.
