A 25-year-old man has been arrested after more than 100 cannabis plants were seized as part of an ongoing operation targeting the cultivation of cannabis in the Roscommon/Longford areas.

The discovery was made during a planned search at a house in Ballynsheglish near Castlerea yesterday.

The plants, at various stages of growth, have an estimated street value of €80,000, pending analysis.

Gardaí said the house had been extensively adapted for the purpose of cannabis cultivation.

The man was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at Roscommon Garda Station.

The man is expected to appear before a sitting of Carrick-on-Shannon District Court this afternoon.
