Gardaí in Ballyfermot have arrested two men following an alleged carjacking incident in west Dublin.

The incident happened at approximately 4.00am this morning when a male taxi driver was held and threatened at knife point in the Park West area of Dublin.

The taxi driver managed to free himself and escaped unharmed before the two men drove off in the taxi.

The car was abandoned and recovered a short distance from the scene by gardaí.

Two men in theirs 20s were arrested in the west Dublin area a short time later. 

Both males are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ballyfermot Garda Station.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
