Thousands of people attended a rally in Dublin today to support same-sex marriage.

Organisers said 8,000 people took part in the march, some of whom were dressed in sashes and tiaras following the news that the newly crowned Rose of Tralee, Maria Walsh, had publicly come out as gay.

The March for Marriage is an annual event, and this year finished outside the Department of Justice.

A referendum on same-sex marriage is due to be held next year.
