A 23-year-old man is in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked by at least five masked men in his home at Tower, Co Cork.

The group of men threw a block through a window in man's home at Willison Park just before midnight and then assaulted him in front of his partner and their four-year-old child.

He was struck with a lump hammer and stabbed and is being treated at Cork University Hospital for a broken arm, and lacerations to his head and body.

His condition is described as serious, but not life threatening.

Gardaí at Gurranabraher and Blarney are investigating whether this attack had any connection to a separate assault two days ago in the area during which an 18-year-old man was injured.
