An Army bomb disposal team has disarmed a suspect device in Carrigart in Co Donegal.

The team was dispatched to the scene near Milford this morning after gardaí were alerted about a suspect device.

A cordon and road closures were put in place and a number of nearby houses were evacuated.

The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion.

It was then taken to a military location for further testing, where it was confirmed as a viable improvised explosive device.

Gardaí are investigating the incident.
