A garda has been injured after being knocked down by a car travelling the wrong way in Dublin city centre this morning.

The incident happened on College Street, near Trinity College, at 8.25am.

The garda, who was on traffic duty, was hit by the car when it failed to stop as it travelled in the wrong direction in the bus lane.

The garda's injuries are not believed to be serious.

The car collided with a Dublin Bus before the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

An investigation is under way and gardaí are appealing for information.
