A 55-year-old man has died in a house fire in Co Westmeath overnight.

The blaze broke out at around 3.30am at the house in Jordanstown in Ballynacargy.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 82-year-old woman was taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

An investigation is under way into the fire.
