Three people have been arrested after a garda car was rammed four times in Trim, Co Meath.

One garda was brought to hospital as a precaution and the patrol car appears to be a write-off.

A checkpoint had been set-up in the town at 11pm last night after gardaí were alerted to a car break-in in the Johnstown Bridge area of Co Kildare.

A car with two men and one woman failed to stop at the checkpoint and the car was followed by gardaí.

The car then did a U-turn and drove towards the patrol car ramming it three times.

It then headed out of Trim towards Navan and did another U-turn and rammed the patrol car.

This ramming incident brought both vehicles to a stop and the culprits fled on foot.

Three people were arrested a short time later.
