A 50-year-old cyclist has died after being struck by a car on the M1 motorway, near Swords in Co Dublin.

He was taken to Beaumont Hospital, where he was pronounced dead tonight.

The occupants of the car were not injured.

The collision occurred between junctions three and four of the M1.

The motorway was closed for a brief period to facilitate emergency services but has since reopened.
