A 17-year-old man has been killed in a quad back accident in Co Limerick.

Kenneth Ryan from Pallasgreen, Co Limerick, lost control of the bike and collided with a tractor involved in hedge cutting along a narrow country road at lunchtime yesterday.

The accident occurred at approximately 1.45pm on the R507 Oola to Doon Road in Co Limerick.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick.

The tractor driver was not injured.

It is understood the teenager lost control of his quad bike on a bend and ended up on the opposite side of the road in between the tractor and the ditch.

A group of the victim's friends who were travelling in a jeep nearby witnessed the tragic accident.

Gardai and units of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service from Cappamore were called to the scene.

The road remained closed for a technical examination and diversions were in place for a period.
