An 18-year-old man was held at gunpoint at a disused farmhouse in Newtownstalaban in Co Louth last night after he arranged to meet a man to sell his car.

Gardaí say the man arrived at an agreed location where he had arranged to meet the man at around 11.30pm.

Instead he was met by two masked men, one of whom had a firearm.

They took him at gunpoint to a disused farmhouse and held him there for a number of hours.

He was then taken to his own home, where his brother and father were assaulted.

The house was searched and some items were taken. The raiders stole property worth less than €1,000.

The masked men left in a car that was later found burned out.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, but gardaí believe four men were involved.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041-9874200, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any garda station.
