The numbers of marriages per year has been declining, according to national figures that will be published soon.

The number of marriages registered in 2013 was 20,670, which amounts to a decrease of 2,120 (9%) compared to 2007.

The composition of marriages, as between civil and religious, has changed in recent years.

Non-religious marriages now account for 29% of all marriages, up 23% from 2007.

The figures are contained in the annual report of the National Register, which was brought to Cabinet today.
