A 22-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Co Cork.

The fire broke out at around 3.30am at the house on the New Cork Road in Midleton.

Seven other people who were also in the house at the time of the fire managed to escape.

They were brought to Mercy University Hospital in Cork with minor injuries but have since been released.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post mortem examination will be carried out.

She has been named as Stacey Dunlea.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination but gardaí are not treating the fire as suspicious.
