The body of a man has been recovered from the sea off Downings in Co Donegal.

The body was taken from the water at 5.40pm yesterday.

A search had been ongoing in the area for two weeks, after the discovery of an empty yacht anchored just 100 yards off the coastline at Ards.

Gardaí, Mulroy Coast Guard and a search and rescue helicopter based in Sligo had been involved in the search.

The body has been taken to Letterkenny General Hospital, where a post-mortem examination was carried out.
