Four people were killed when their cargo plane crashed shortly after take-off in Nairobi, a police official has said.

The plane was transporting the mild stimulant known as khat to the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

It crashed into a commercial building after taking off from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport earlier, according to the airport’s head of police investigations.

They said preliminary investigations found the plane was flying low after take-off and might have hit an electrical pole before crashing in the Embakasi area of the city.

Ngisa said the four on board included the pilot and his assistant.
