A 47-year-old woman has died in a house fire in Limerick city.

The blaze broke out at the house in Daly Avenue in Janesboro just after midnight.

The woman, who was the sole occupant in the house, was taken to University Hospital Limerick where she was pronounced dead.

The scene of the fire has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are not treating the fire as suspicious.
