Meath County Council has said water at Bettystown beach “is clear of all bacteria” and a no-swimming recommendation is no longer valid after the latest round of tests of coastal water.

The results come from water samples taken on Wednesday.

The council had been notified that water samples two days earlier contained elevated levels of bacteria including E Coli.

It said the advice not to swim, no longer applies.

"The Council will continue with its procedures to take weekly samples of the water to ensure that Bettystown/Laytown beach is a safe and enjoyable place to swim," a spokeswoman said.
