A six-year-old boy who was shot in the neck on Friday night in Ballyfermot is in a stable condition in Our Lady's Children's Hospital in Dublin.
A man in his 30s is still being questioned in connection with the shooting.
He was a witness to the shooting and is believed to have been the intended target.
He was arrested yesterday and is being detained on suspicion of withholding information and can be questioned for up to three days.
The boy had been out playing near his house in Croftwood Gardens in Ballyfermot when a man cycled up and fired shots at another man nearby.
He missed and hit the child.
Gardaí said the boy is lucky to be alive.
Investigators are following a definite line of inquiry and are searching for the gunman.
They also believe a handgun was used in the attack but the weapon has not been recovered.
The arrested man is being detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station.
