A 66-year-old man is in a critical condition after an assault near Ballyporeen, Co Tipperary.
Gardaí say an altercation between two men at a house in Kilcaroon happened shortly before 2.45pm yesterday.
The man was admitted to South Tipperary General Hospital with head injuries, but has since been transferred to Cork University Hospital.
It is understood the victim was attacked by a man who was known to him.
An 18-year-old man was arrested and is being detained at Cahir Garda Station.
