A six-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in Kilkenny.

The incident happened at Lintown Grove, Lintown Hall, which is on the outskirts of Kilkenny city, at approximately 6.30pm.

The boy was taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, a woman in her 40s, was the only occupant of the car and was uninjured in the collision.

The road was closed to facilitate a forensic examination but has since been reopened.
