The IMPACT trade union has served notice of two one-day strikes on South Dublin County Council.

IMPACT members at the local authority's offices plan to strike on 24 and 26 June.

The union said the action is an escalation of an ongoing dispute over pay cuts.

An IMPACT spokesperson said up to 600 members who work in the local authority will be taking part in the strikes, and it is expected that a wide range of council services will be affected.

For the last two weeks union members have been involved in limited industrial action including refusing to staff public counters between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

The union said there is also expected to be some disruption to phone services next week.
