The body of a man who got into difficulty and was swept away on the River Shannon yesterday evening has been recovered.

The man got into difficulty at an area known as Sandy, located behind the grounds of the University of Limerick.

He had been at the riverside with one of his horses.

The body was recovered after search teams from Limerick and Killaloe had resumed their search for the man early this morning.

The man was aged in his late 20s and from the south side of Limerick city.
