Calls for compensation over forced adoptionsSunday 01 June 2014 20.22
The Government has been urged by the Adoption Rights Alliance to compensate victims of forced adoptions here.
The call was made at a commemoration of mothers and children who died in a Co Tipperary mother-and-baby home which was the subject of the Oscar-nominated film Philomena, and where hundreds of other mothers were obliged to give up their babies for adoption abroad.
Hundreds of people attended the emotional event in the Angels' Plot in Sean Ross Abbey near Roscrea.
Among them was Philomena Lee whose search for Michael Anthony Hess, the son she bore at the Abbey before he was taken away for adoption in America, attracted widespread praise from the participants.
