A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body of a man who died following an assault outside a Galway bar in the early hours of this morning.

The 60-year-old man was admitted to University Hospital Galway after the alleged assault at Crowe's Bar on Bohermore between 2 and 3am. He died a few hours later.

A 52-year-old man, from Galway city, presented himself at Mill Street Garda Station this morning and is being detained.

Gardaí in Galway said they are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination before they proceed further with the investigation
