Five held after device found in Co Louth

Five men have been arrested after a suspicious device was discovered in Co Louth. 

The discovery was made in Kilcurry, north of Dundalk as part of an investigation into the activities of dissident republicans.

The garda operation was carried out by the special detective unit and officers from crime and security.

The five people in custody are aged between 50 and 70.

They are being detained in Drogheda and Dundalk garda stations.

They can be detained for up to three days.

The type of device has not yet been established but the area has been sealed off and the army bomb disposal team has been called in.
