A woman is in a serious condition after she was thrown from a  motorcycle on which she was a passenger in Co Kerry.

The woman and the driver were thrown onto a river bed below.

The incident happened at the Gap of Dunloe near Killarney in Co Kerry.

Both the woman and the man were airlifted to hospital by the Coast Guard helicopter based in Shannon.

Ambulance crew administered first aid at the scene before the couple were hoisted from the river bed.

The pair were stretchered through the Gap of Dunloe by members of the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team.

They were then flown by helicopter to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee, where they are being treated for their injuries.
