The body of a 35-year-old man has been found at Carnalogue, Louth Village, Co Louth.

The man has been named locally as Keith Byrne.

He had been socialising nearby and left to walk the short distance home.

He was found at the side of a road by a passer-by at around 4.40am, yards from where he lived with his family.

Paramedics were called to the scene but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

It is believed he sustained injuries to his head and leg.

His body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

Gardaí in Ardee are appealing for witnesses.
